Working with International Students
These interactive workshops are designed to teach basic intercultural communication skills and expand your insight about the changing student demographic at Illinois. The goal of these workshops is to gain knowledge and skills that will help staff interact effectively with international students. More specifically, you will (a) learn more about our international student community and why they are important to the campus, (b) increase your awareness of cultural differences, (c) hear personal stories from international students about their experiences on campus, and (d) participate in activities designed to help you communicate effectively with international students. In addition, you’ll be referred to campus resources for staff and faculty who work with and support international students. You will also have the opportunity to ask questions and talk with other Illinois staff about the opportunities and challenges related to working with the international students in your unit.
The session Working with Illinois International Students: Front Line Staff will be held on April 30, 2015, from 9am-11am. The session Working with Illinois International Students: Advising will be held on June 4, 2015, from 3pm-5pm. The workshops will be held at 507 E. Green Street, Champaign, IL, Room 411 (4th floor of the Urban Outfitters building). Metered parking in this area of campus is limited. Parking fees are the responsibility of the workshop participant.
